Although he wasn’t in the original lineup of Guns N’ Roses, Dizzy Reed has now been in the band for nearly three decades. Since then, the band has continued their great success and now gone on to become one of the most well known groups in the world. In a recent interview, Reed jokingly admitted that Axl Rose could ‘fire me tomorrow’.
Just recently, we saw a ‘nearly’ reunion of Guns N’ Roses and Reed admitted that the revolving door of musicians does worry him a little but that it is just part and parcel of the music industry. Reed went on to say that regardless of who is playing in the band, everyone just wants to give their all for Rose and for all of the fans that have come out to see them. Despite not having all of the original members available, Reed believes that when Rose picks up the microphone, it is still Guns N’ Roses.
After witnessing so many of his bandmates come and go over a period of 27 years, Reed was asked what was keeping him involved in the band and he noted that the appreciation of the fans was one of the main reasons. As he has stuck with the band for so long, many fans appreciate this commitment and Reed says it makes him ‘feel really good’. Aside from this, he also said that it was probably too late for him to start over.
When someone is in a band for 27 years, you assume that they are a part of the furniture but Reed says that he never takes his position for granted. Also, he spoke of his support for Axl Rose despite some fans and former friends speaking out against him. Reed clearly has a strong bond with Rose and went so far as to say ‘I will always take his side regardless of right or wrong’ because he can ‘set everything straight’ when something doesn’t make sense.
In recent years, we have come to learn more about the inside of Guns N’ Roses and Reed even said back in 2014 that he was worried when first joining because he wanted to gain the acceptance of his bandmates and fans. At first, Rose wanted Reed but the other members were a little skeptical until they realised that he had something to add musically.
Currently, Guns N’ Roses are touring South America before coming back to the US towards the end of the month. After a couple of months off, they resume at the end of January in Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and more. In terms of band members, this current reincarnation consists of Slash, Axl Rose, and Duff McKagan who are supported by Reed, Frank Ferrer, Richard Fortus, and a second keyboardist, Melissa Reese.
